Why You're Going To Love This Recipe
- Basic ingredients - aside from a packet of licorice allsorts, you probably already have all the other ingredients required for this slice sitting in your fridge and pantry right now.
- You don't have to like licorice to enjoy this slice... I promise! - even if you don't like licorice (I don't!!) you'll love this slice (I do!!) The subtle little bursts of licorice flavour don't overwhelm the sweet biscuit crumb base and the chocolate layer on top is simply DELICIOUS!
- A family favourite - this sweet little slice is one of my Mum's absolute favourites... and it's no surprise given how yummy it is.
- Super quick - so little prep time (just 20 minutes), then mix and chill in the fridge.
- Easy recipe - besides being absolutely foolproof, there's no fancy equipment required - just a knife, a bowl and a spoon.... this really is the perfect recipe for beginner bakers too.

What You Need
With basic pantry ingredients and a bag of yummy licorice allsorts, you can enjoy this licorice allsort slice so quickly and easily!
Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

- butter - salted or unsalted, either are fine to use in this recipe
- sweetened condensed milk - choose full fat sweetened condensed milk as it sets the slice more firmly than the skim version
- golden syrup - if you can't find golden syrup in your supermarket, you can substitute it for corn syrup, honey or maple syrup.
- sweet plain biscuits/cookies - I like to use Arnotts Marie biscuits but you can use any plain sweet biscuit (known as cookies in the US). Graham crackers are a good alternative for a sweet plain cookie.
- desiccated coconut - desiccated coconut is very finely grated coconut that contains moisture but is dry to the taste and touch
- licorice allsorts - choose a good quality licorice allsort such as Darrell Lea
- milk chocolate - you can use either 'melts' or a block, but again, chose a good quality baking chocolate such as Cadbury baking products
- vegetable or coconut oil - this is optional, however, adding this to the chocolate makes it much easier to cut the slice without the chocolate cracking.
Step By Step Instructions
Believe me, this recipe couldn't be any easier to make... just make sure not too many licorice allsorts 'disappear' when you're cutting them up!
Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.
Step 1 - Prepare The Wet Ingredients
Grease a slice tray and line it with baking paper overlapping the edges of the tray - this makes it easier to lift out and slice once chilled.
Place the butter, sweetened condensed milk and golden syrup in a microwave-safe bowl and melt in the microwave on 50% power.
Note: Alternatively you can melt the chocolate and butter in a saucepan on the stovetop or in a Thermomix.

Mix wet ingredients to combine.

Step 2 - Prepare The Dry Ingredients
Cut the licorice allsorts into small slices.

Crush the biscuits/cookies finely using your food processor or Thermomix.

Step 3 - Mix
With a spoon, mix the melted ingredients, the crushed biscuits, coconut and chopped licorice allsorts together until well combined.

Press mixture evenly into your slice tray and set aside.

Step 4 - Melt The Chocolate
Roughly break up the chocolate (if using a block) and place the chocolate and vegetable or coconut oil into a microwave-safe bowl and melt in the microwave on 50% power.
Note: Alternatively you can melt the chocolate and oil in a saucepan on the stovetop or in a Thermomix.

Spread a layer of melted chocolate evenly over the slice and then refrigerate for 3 hours before cutting the slice into pieces.

Expert Tips & FAQ's
With the addition of a little vegetable oil or coconut oil, it makes the chocolate topping much easier to cut without the chocolate cracking. See my tips for cutting slices perfectly here.
I recommend using full fat sweetened condensed milk for this recipe as the slice sets more firmly. I use the Nestle brand but any full fat sweetened condensed milk will work well.
You can substitute the golden syrup for corn syrup, honey or maple syrup.
You can store your slice in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a week.
This slice can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.

I'm still smiling at how similar we are with our taste! You'll never believe it but as your email came through to me for this weeks FFF I had just popped a batch of my licorice allsort slice in the fridge! I'm going to a fundraiser for camp quality on the weekend and am donating some baking to be auctioned, 1 batch of my licorice allsort slice and 1 batch of Zamama's Rocky road.
You talk to your Mum just the way I do, lol! I'm guessing when I ask Mum to help me package up my slice and rocky road tomorrow she's going to be thinking she's earned herself some of her favourite slice too! Heralltime favourite licorice allsorts are the ones from Darrell Lea!
Now I do have a question how is it that you cut your slice so clean and perfect? Do you have any tips?
Thanks for another great FFF link up party.
Have a beautiful weekend 🙂 xx
Bake Play Smile says
Haha we are definitely very similar Danielle! Oooh Rocky Road sounds great! I like to use a little Victorinox serrated knife when I cut my slices. It's tiny but oh so fabulous!!!
