Our classic ANZAC Slice takes just 10 minutes to prepare and is perfect for lunchbox snacks! Chewy, sweet and oh-so-delicious (just like your favourite ANZAC biscuits!).

Chewy, golden and packed with that classic ANZAC flavour - this ANZAC Slice is your new go-to! Keep it traditional, or throw in some chocolate chips for a fun twist. Quick, easy and always a hit (just like my ANZAC biscuits and chocolate oat flapjacks).

This was a very easy recipe with fantastic results. Tasted delicious and quicker to make than a batch of ANZAC biscuits.

If you love the rich, buttery flavour of ANZAC biscuits, then this ANZAC Slice is going to be your new favourite treat! It's everything you adore about the classic Aussie bikkie - golden syrup, oats and coconut - baked into a chewy, crowd-pleasing slice.

Whether you're making a batch for school lunchboxes, a bake sale or a sweet afternoon tea, this recipe is as quick and easy as my chocolate caramel slice, vanilla custard slice, chocolate oat cookies, and honey joys... and just as irresistible!

    Slice Ingredients

You'll only need a handful of basic pantry staples to make this chewy and golden ANZAC Slice - simple, fuss-free and budget-friendly!

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

    • rolled oats - alternatively you can substitute the rolled oats with quick oats if you prefer
    • golden syrup - if you can't access golden syrup, you can replace it with honey, rice malt syrup or maple syrup

    Variations

Chocolate Chip ANZAC Slice - Stir through 150g of chocolate chips (milk, dark or white) before baking.

Fruit & Nut - Add a handful of chopped dried fruit (like cranberries, sultanas or apricots) and/or chopped nuts (walnuts or macadamias work well).

Coconut-Free - Leave out the coconut and replace with extra oats if you prefer.

Drizzle with Chocolate - Once cooled, drizzle melted chocolate over the top for an extra indulgent touch.

    How To Make ANZAC Slice

This ANZAC Slice is so simple to make - just 10 minutes of prep and a few easy steps for a chewy, golden slice everyone will love!

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

    1. Step 5: Press the mixture firmly into your prepared baking tray and bake for 25 minutes or until the top of the slice is lightly golden brown.

    Recipe Tips

    • Use rolled oats - Quick oats make it too dense. Rolled oats give you that classic chewy texture.
    • Heat the butter mixture - Make sure your butter and golden syrup mix is hot enough to activate the bicarb soda properly.
    • Press it down firmly - Use the back of a spoon to press the mix into the tin evenly so it holds together when sliced.
    • Cool completely before slicing - Let it cool in the tin before cutting, or it might fall apart.
    • Add a twist if you like - Throw in some choc chips, dried fruit or chopped nuts if you want to mix things up.
    • Store it right - Keep in an airtight container at room temp for up to a week.
    • Freezer-friendly - Slice and freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Just thaw at room temp when you need a snack!

    ANZAC Slice FAQs

Can I use quick oats instead of rolled oats?

You can, but the texture will be different. Rolled oats give that classic chewy bite, while quick oats make the slice softer and more cake-like.

Can I make this ANZAC Slice gluten-free?

Yes - just swap the plain flour for a gluten-free plain flour blend. Important: oats are naturally gluten-free but not always suitable for coeliacs, so check with your health professional if needed.

Can I add chocolate chips or other extras?

Absolutely! Chocolate chips, dried fruit (like cranberries or sultanas), or chopped nuts are all great additions.

How should I store ANZAC Slice?

Store it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or freeze individual slices for up to 3 months.
