Why You're Going To Love This Recipe

    • Quick recipe - this fun cocktail takes just 5 minutes to prepare!
    • No fancy equipment needed - all you need is a blender or Thermomix!
    • Summer cocktail - this icy cocktail is perfect for drinking while lazing by the pool on hot summer days!
    • Perfect for a girls night in.
    • Conventional or Thermomix - both methods are written in the recipe card at the end of the post.

    What You Need

Miami Vice recipe uses ingredients that are all easy to find in your local supermarket and liquor store!

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

Ingredients needed to make the cocktail.
    • White rum - you can use any brand of white rum (light rum) you like. I like to use Malibu or Bacardi for this recipe. Dark rum is not suitable.
    • Strawberries - I recommend using frozen strawberries if you can, as they provide the perfect texture for the frozen daiquiri (and you can make it all year round!), however fresh strawberries can also be used.
    • Lime juice - squeeze the juice from fresh lime, or use fresh lime juice ready squeezed.
    • Simple syrup - this simple sugar syrup can be purchased from Dan Murphys or your local liquor store.
    • Coconut cream - also known as cream of coconut, or substitute with coconut milk.
    • Pineapple juice - the classic tropical Pina colada ingredient!
    • Ice cubes.

    Equipment Required

To make this delicious layered classic cocktail, you'll need:

    • High-powered blender or Thermomix (for blending both layers)
    • Measuring jug (for measuring liquids like rum, lime juice, and syrup)
    • Kitchen scales (for accurately weighing strawberries and ice cubes)
    • Mixing spoon (optional, for layering the drinks smoothly)
    • 2 serving glasses (such as a hurricane glass or tall cocktail glass)
    • Straws (optional, for easy sipping)
    • Garnish knife (for slicing pineapple or strawberries for garnish)
    • Freezer (to keep the first layer icy while preparing the second)

    Step By Step Instructions

Want an easy and fruity cocktail that looks super impressive? This Miami Vice cocktail is for you! Half strawberry daiquiri and half pina colada!

Just blend, layer and serve... the perfect frozen drink.

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

Step 1 - Prepare The Strawberry Daiquiri

Place the white rum, strawberries, lime juice, simple syrup and ice cubes into a high powered blender or Thermomix.

Strawberries, white rum. lime juice, sugar syrup and ice cubes in a blender.

    Blend until smooth.

Divide between 2 serving glasses, filling them halfway up to the top, smooth out the mixture with the back of a spoon and then place into the freezer while you prepare the pina colada.

The ingredients blended to a smooth slushy in the blender.

Step 2 - Prepare The Pina Colada

Clean your blender or Thermomix, then add the white rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice and ice cubes.

White rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice and ice cubes in a clean blender.

    Blend until smooth.

The blended Pina Colada in the blender.

    Step 3 - Serve!

Take the strawberry daiquiri out of the freezer and carefully pour the pina colada over the top of the daiquiri to give a layering effect.

    Serve Miami Vice cocktail immediately.

    Expert Tips

Here's how to make the perfect Miami Vice cocktail recipe!

    • Both the daiquiri and pina colada should have a slushy-like texture when blended. If they're too runny, then add extra ice cubes and blend until smooth and slushy.
    • Freeze the strawberry daiquiri while you prepare the pina colada to stop it from melting.
    • Garnish your Miami Vice cocktail - with a fresh strawberry or a pineapple wedge on the side of the cocktail glass.
    • Serve immediately - this cocktail is best served icy cold!

    FAQs

    Can I double the recipe?

Absolutely! Just make sure to keep the two cocktails separate until ready to serve.

What can you use instead of coconut cream in a Pina Colada?

You can use canned coconut milk instead of coconut cream to make the Pina Colada.

Can I make Miami Vice in the Thermomix?

Absolutely! I have included instructions for making Miami Vice in the Thermomix in the recipe card below.

Can I make a virgin Miami Vice without any alcohol?

Yes! And it's just as refreshing and delicious! Simply substitute the rum in the strawberry daiquiri layer for coconut water or apple juice, and the rum in the pina colada layer for coconut water or pineapple juice.
