Whether you are looking for desserts with few ingredients, party food ideas, or edible Christmas food gifts, homemade chocolate truffles are a popular sweet treat that always get the thumbs up, from delicious Biscoff truffles and Oreo truffles, to lemon and white chocolate truffles, there's endless options.

Why You're Going To Love This Recipe

    • Easy recipe - just melt, roll and coat. No baking required (and there's minimal washing up too!) The hardest part about making these Toblerone truffles is waiting for the truffle mixture to chill in the fridge!
    • Only 4 ingredients - with a handful of easy to find ingredients, this really is a simple recipe!
    • Delicious and easy homemade food gift - friends, family or neighbours will all love a gift of homemade truffles.
    • Kid-friendly - this fun and easy recipe is perfect for budding cooks, and is also a great Christmas recipe to make with kids.
    • Conventional or Thermomix - both methods are given in the recipe card below.

    What You Need

You only need 4 ingredients to make these easy chocolate truffles.

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

    • Toblerone chocolate - this Swiss almond nougat chocolate is widely available at supermarkets, but you can substitute with regular milk, dark or almond chocolate if you prefer.
    • Butter - unsalted butter.
    • Cream - thickened cream (as it's referred to in Australia) or heavy cream (as it's known in the US).
    • Crushed hazelnuts - to coat the truffles.
The 4 ingredients required, set out on a bench top.

    Equipment Required

    • Microwave safe bowl or Thermomix.
    • Food processor, Thermomix or rolling pin - to finely crush the hazelnuts.

    Step By Step Instructions

It takes just 15 minutes to prepare these rich and decadent, homemade Toblerone truffles from scratch!

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

    Step 1 - Melt

Melt the Toblerone chocolate, butter and cream in a microwave-safe bowl for 2-3 minutes on 50% power (stirring every 30 seconds).

    Step 2 - Chill

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 6 hours (MINIMUM).

Note: A MINIMUM of 6 hours is required to chill the mixture. Any less than this and your truffle mixture will be too soft to roll in to balls.

    Step 3 - Roll

Roll 2 teaspoonfuls of mixture into a ball.

Roll ball in the crushed hazelnuts to coat well. Continue until all of the mixture has been used.

    Expert Tips

    • Crushing the hazelnuts - use a food processor, Thermomix or rolling pin to finely crush the hazelnuts.
    • Type of cream - Toblerone truffles require thickened cream (as it's referred to in Australia) or heavy cream (as it's known in the US).
    • Chilling time - a MINIMUM of 6 hours is required to chill the mixture. Any less than this and your truffle mixture will be too soft to roll in to balls.
    • Other truffle coatings - if you don't want to use hazelnuts to coat the truffles with, you can use crushed almonds instead, or cocoa powder, or even sprinkles.
    • Storing the truffles - the truffles will last up to 1 week in an airtight container in the fridge or 3 months in the freezer.
