Milo Balls on a cake stand, with some rolled in sprinkles and some in coconut.

These 4 Ingredient Milo Weet-Bix Balls are the easiest lunchbox win in my whole recipe box, no baking, no fuss, just rolling.

If your kids are into no-bake snacks like my Weetbix Bliss Balls or Kid-Friendly Rum Balls, these will disappear from the container just as fast.

Damn delicious! I made for my kids lunchboxes but I keep eating them! They freeze well too. I love the simplicity of this recipe with 4 ingredients. Will make again!

    - Dani

Milo Weet-Bix Balls are always a huge hit in our house, they taste great, they're freezer-friendly, and my son loves helping make them (and eating the mixture along the way).

Looking for more kid-friendly ball recipes? My Lemon Bliss Balls, my Peanut Butter Bliss Balls or my Milo Biscuits are always popular too.

Why You're Going To Love This Recipe

    • So Quick And Easy - ready to eat in 10 minutes, even quicker with a Thermomix.
    • Budget-Friendly - so much cheaper than store-bought lunchbox snacks.
    • Freezer-Friendly - keep a batch in the freezer for grab-and-go snacks.
    • Kids LOVE Them - a no-bake, no-fail recipe that's perfect for little hands to help with.
    • Conventional or Thermomix - both methods are in the recipe card below.

4 Ingredient Milo Weet-Bix Balls Ingredients

The ingredients for Milo Weet-Bix Balls.

Just four simple ingredients, plus some extra coconut or sprinkles for rolling.

    • Weet-Bix - a pantry staple in most Aussie homes. You can substitute with Vita-Brits or Weeties if that's what you've got.
    • Milo - a malted milk powder similar to Ovaltine or Horlicks. If you're out, swap it for Ovaltine, cocoa powder or cacao powder instead.

    Variations

    • Nut and coconut-free - swap the desiccated coconut for the same weight in extra crushed Weet-Bix, great for kinder or school snack lists.
    • Extra chocolatey - swap the Milo for cocoa or cacao powder if that's what you have on hand, or just prefer a stronger chocolate hit.
    • Different coating - roll the finished balls in extra Milo, cocoa or leave them plain instead of coconut or sprinkles.
    • Bigger batch - this recipe doubles easily if you want a bigger lunchbox stash or you're making them for a party.

How To Make 4 Ingredient Milo Weet-Bix Balls

Just crush, mix and roll and they're ready to eat.

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredient quantities and full detailed method.

Condensed milk, coconut and milo in a glass bowl.
    1. Step 1: Crush and mix. Blitz the Weet-Bix in a food processor or Thermomix until they resemble fine crumbs, then add the Milo, coconut and condensed milk and mix until well combined.
Small rolled kids protein balls on a plate.
    1. Step 2: Roll into balls. Use your hands to roll the mixture into heaped teaspoon-sized balls, as big or small as you like.
A round ball in a plate of coloured sprinkles.
    1. Step 3: Coat and chill. Toss the balls in sprinkles or coconut until well coated, then pop them in the fridge to firm up (or dig in straight away).

    Recipe Tips

    • Use a food processor or Thermomix if you have one - it makes crushing the Weet-Bix quick work, but a rolling pin does the job too.
    • This mixture makes about 30 balls - I use heaped teaspoonfuls for a nice sized snack.
    • If the mixture feels a bit dry - add a teaspoon or two of water to help it come together and hold its shape when rolled.
    • Storage - keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, that's if they don't get eaten first!
    • Freezing - freeze in an airtight container for up to 2 months, perfect for a grab-and-go snack that'll be thawed by recess time.

4 Ingredient Milo Weet-Bix Balls FAQs

Is there a substitute for Milo in this recipe?

Yes, you can substitute the Milo with Ovaltine, or either cocoa powder or cacao powder, depending on what you have and how strong you want the chocolate flavour.

What can I use instead of coconut if my child has an allergy?

Simply substitute the desiccated coconut for the same weight in extra crushed Weet-Bix. It works a treat and keeps the balls just as easy to roll.

My mixture is too dry and won't hold together, what do I do?

Add a teaspoon or two of water and mix again. This usually happens if your Weet-Bix crumbs are a little coarse or your condensed milk tin was slightly under.

Can I freeze Milo Weet-Bix Balls?

Yes! Freeze them in an airtight container for up to 2 months. They're perfect for a grab-and-go snack that will be thawed by the time recess or lunchtime rolls around.

Can I use condensed milk substitutes for a dairy-free version?

Regular condensed milk can't be swapped for a butter alternative, but a coconut condensed milk works well if you need a dairy-free option.

    Instructions

    • Place the Weet-Bix into a food processor and process until they resemble fine crumbs (you could also use a rolling pin instead).
If using a Thermomix: Place the Weet-Bix into the Thermomix bowl and crush for 10 seconds on Speed 8.
    • Place the crushed Weet-Bix into a large bowl and add the Milo, coconut and condensed milk and mix together.
If using a Thermomix: Add the Milo, coconut and condensed milk and mix for 10 seconds on Speed 4. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and mix for a further 5 seconds.
    • Roll heaped teaspoons of the mixture into balls.
    • Roll in the extra coconut to coat. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

    Notes

    RECIPE NOTES & TIPS:
    • If you have a Thermomix or a food processor, this will make it super quick to crush the biscuits, but if not, then a rolling pin will do.
    • This mixture will make approximately 30 balls (depending on the size). I like to use heaped teaspoonfuls for a nice sized snack.
    • Milo Weet-Bix Balls can be stored in an airtight container at room temperarure for up to one week - that's if they don't get eaten first!
    • You can freeze Weet-Bix balls in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Perfect for a 'grab and go' snack that will be thawed by lunchtime.

With the 100 and 1000s topping is that still suitable to freeze or do they discolour?

My kids love these in their lunch box, and I love that they can be frozen! I do put 3 extra weetbix in the mix to make it a bit firmer. This is my 4th time making this recipe

Do these set firmer or stay soft, thanks, as I am used to the nice firm ones made with digestive wheat biscuits x

Hi Donna, I would say that these will be softer than the ones you have been making with digestives!
