Christmas sleighs made with candy canes and Milky Way bars

Tiny Teddy Christmas Candy Cane Sleighs are the perfect treat for a Christmas party or sweet little DIY food gifts. They're a fun and simple Christmas activity for the kids!

If you have kids who are just bursting with excitement for Christmas, then these sleighs are a fantastic activity to get them into the kitchen in the lead up to Christmas.

Just like my classic 3 ingredient shortbread, gingerbread and rocky road, these sleighs are easy enough for the kids to make either on their own, or with just a little bit of assistance!

Why You're Going To Love This Recipe

These Tiny Teddy Christmas Candy Cane Sleighs are so fun to make!

    • Kids Activity - got some kids in the house that are super excited about Christmas? This is such a fun and simple activity for them to do in the lead up to Christmas!
    • Perfect For Class Parties - take a plate of cute little sleighs along to class Christmas parties or end of year get togethers.
    • Homemade Food Gift - your kids will love giving these homemade sleighs to their friends and neighbours, especially if they've had a hand in making them themselves!

    What You Need

Just a few festive ingredients is all you need to make these cute little Christmas sleighs.

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method

    The ingredients for Christmas sleighs.
    • Candy Canes - choose mini candy canes for this recipe. Tip: if you can buy unwrapped candy canes, that is the preferred option as some brands can be a little difficult to unwrap without breaking the candy canes.
    • Tiny Teddies - made by Arnott's here in Australia. Alternatively you can use any mini teddy bear cookies.
    • Milky Ways - choose treat-size or mini Milky Ways or similar rectangular chocolate coated soft nougat bars. Also known as 3 Musketeers bars in some countries.
    • Mini M&Ms - these can be bought in a plastic tube from the confectionary aisle.
    • Pretzels - use small pieces of pretzels for the 'ears'.
    • Melted chocolate - this is used to 'stick' the elements of the sleighs together.

    Step By Step Instructions

A few simple steps is all it takes to prepare these Tiny Teddy Christmas Candy Cane Sleighs

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method

Step 1 - Add The Noses

Start by 'gluing' one mini M&M, with a dab of melted chocolate, onto each Tiny Teddy to resemble the nose.

Tiny Teddies with M&M's stuck on them, on a plate.

Step 2 - Insert Into The Milky Ways

Cut a tiny slit with a knife in the middle of each Milky Way (adult help required!)

Dip the bottom of each Tiny Teddy into the melted chocolate and then lightly press into the top of the Milky Way.

Note: the Tiny Teddy doesn't need to go right in as the melted chocolate will help to keep it in place.

Step 3 - Add The Candy Canes

Spread melted chocolate along a 2cm section of each candy cane (approximately half to two-thirds of the way down).

Place the Milky Ways onto the melted chocolate and hold in place until set.

    Candy canes become edible sleighs.

Step 4 - Add The Pretzel Ears

Dip the ends of two tiny pieces of pretzel into the melted chocolate and hold onto the top of the Tiny Teddy's ears until they have set.

    Expert Tips & FAQ

Follow my simple tips for the perfect Christmas sleighs!

Can I use a different chocolate rather than Milky Ways?

Of course! However, it's important to choose a rectangular chocolate bar with a soft centre (like Bounty Bars, Mars Bars etc).

Can these be given as Christmas gifts?

Absolutely, they make a fabulous little gift! Place into cellophane bags, tie with a lovely Christmas ribbon, and give to friends, family and neighbours at Christmas time.

    Storing

Keep these Tiny Teddy Candy Cane Sleighs stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

    Freezing

This recipe is not suitable for freezing.

    Ingredients

    • 12 Tiny Teddy biscuits
    • 12 mini M&M's
    • 100 g milk chocolate melted
    • 12 treat size Milky Ways
    • 24 mini candy canes
    • 12 pretzels chopped into small pieces

    Instructions

    • Lay each of the Tiny Teddies out flat on a tray or chopping board.
    • Stick one mini M&M onto each Tiny Teddy with a small amount of melted chocolate to resemble the nose.
    • Cut a tiny slit with a knife in the middle of each Milky Way.
    • Dip the bottom of each Tiny Teddy into the melted chocolate and then lightly press into the top of the Milky Way (the Tiny Teddy doesn't need to go right in - the melted chocolate will help to keep it in place).
    • Spread melted chocolate along a 2cm section of each candy cane (approximately half to two-thirds of the way down) - I like to do this one sleigh at a time so that the chocolate doesn't set too quickly.
    • Place the Milky Way onto the melted chocolate and hold in place until set.
    • Dip the ends of two tiny pretzel pieces into the melted chocolate and hold onto the top of the Tiny Teddy's ears until they have set.
