How to make 'Brownies in a Jar'
It is SO easy to make these clever little homemade foodie gifts. To start off you'll need a 1 litre glass jar (see below for tips on where to buy them). Then it's simply a matter of layering in the dry ingredients, printing out the gift tag... and that. is. it!
Top Tips for making 'Brownies in a Jar'
- If you're making multiple jars, line them all up in a row and place the first ingredient in each of them and then repeat with the remaining ingredients (a bit like a little production line).
- Have a clean dry cloth on hand to wipe down any excess flour from the glass etc as you go (this step is absolutely not necessary but it helps to give you nice straight lines).
- Use a spoon to carefully add each of the ingredients to the jar.
- If you have a bit of room at the top of the jar, simply add in some extra walnuts.
Where can I buy the glass jars?
I'm in Australia and I've found that you can usually buy 1 litre glass jars from Kmart, most $2 shops or discount stores.

Hi.
What size jar could I use?
Thanks
Lucy
Hi Leila, 1 litre glass jars work great!
Kate
Could I use gluten free flour to make it gluten free?
Lucy
I havent personally tried that so I can't comment on the outcome! But I'd love to hear how it goes if you do try it!

Hi,
I've made these and they are great when they are made soon after I have gifted them but others who have left them longer - a month or so have found the brown sugar goes rock hard, any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Lucy
Hi Emily, if the sugar is going hard it would be due to the fact that there's the tiniest bit of moisture inside the glass when it's sealed. If could also be that it's not sealed properly and moisture is getting in. I hope that helps!

Hi I’m making these for a kinder fundraiser but don’t want to add nuts in case if allergies - what could I substitute the walnuts with, or would I just leave them out?
Lucy
I would just omit them entirely! Great idea!
