    What You Need

    Just 6 ingredients are required to make Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups!

    Note: Please scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for ingredient quantities and the full detailed method.

    Ingredients for making jalapeno wonton cups.
    • Wonton wrappers - these can be bought in the chilled section of the supermarket.
    • Cream cheese - softened to room temp (I like using Philadelphia brand).
    • Sour cream - full cream (not skim or light) is best.
    • Bacon - cooked until crispy and then chopped into small chunks.
    • Cheddar cheese - preferably freshly grated, as this has a better quality and texture than store bought grated cheese which has additives to prevent it from clumping.
    • Jalapenos - deseeded and finely chopped.

    Equipment Required

    Only simple baking equipment is required to make Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups - perfect for beginners.

    You will need:

    • Mini muffin tin - 12 holes;
    • Mixing bowl;
    • Oven;
    • Thermomix (optional)

    Step By Step Instructions

    Have these Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups ready to serve in under 30 minutes.

    Note: Please scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for ingredient quantities and the full detailed method.

    Step 1 - Bake The Wontons

    Preheat the oven to 170°C (fan-forced) or 340°F.

    Spray a 24-hole mini muffin tin with cooking oil and carefully press a wonton wrapper into each hole.

    Bake for 10 minutes or until slightly golden, then remove from the oven and set aside.

    Step 2 - Mix The Filling

    Sour cream, grated cheese, chopped jalapenos and crispy bacon in a glass bowl.

    In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, bacon, grated cheese, and chopped jalapenos, reserving a little bacon and cheese for sprinkling on top.

    Expert Tips

    • For extra crispy wonton cups, lightly spray the wonton wrappers with cooking oil before baking.
    • To add extra spicy heat, increase the amount of jalapenos or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the filling.
    • For a vegetarian option, replace the bacon with diced red capsicum or simply omit it.
    • Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups are best served straight from the oven while still warm and gooey!
    • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
    • Reheat in the oven until warmed through.
    • This recipe is not suitable for freezing.

    FAQs

    Can you put jalapeno popper wonton cups in the air fryer?

    Yes! You can cook them in the air fryer or 5 to 8 minutes at 350°F. Watch them carefully to prevent the wonton cups tips from burning.

    How do you reheat wonton cups?

    On a metal baking sheet, arrange any leftover wonton cups and reheat them in a 350° oven for 15 minutes or until warmed through. Alternatively, you can put them in a baking dish pan and cover them with foil if over-browning is a problem.

    Do wonton wrappers have gluten in them?

    Wheat flour, eggs, and water are combined to make the traditional Chinese wonton wrappers, which can be used to encase a variety of fillings that will be fried or cooked in soup. Unfortunately, though, these ingredients are off-limits for anyone who avoids gluten, unless you can sorce a specifically gluten-free variety.
