The perfect party starter! This Cream Cheese Dip is made from just 5 delicious ingredients (cream cheese, grated cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, sweet chilli sauce and chopped spring onions)... and ready to serve in less than 5 minutes!

Serve at your next party with vegetable sticks, crackers, or corn chips on a platter.

Cream cheese dip in a serving dish with vegetable sticks on a platter.

With the silly season just around the corner, it's the perfect time to whip out some of my favourite party food recipes!

This sweet and savoury cream cheese dip is SO simple to make and it's always a hit with adults and kids alike, as is my famous spinach cob loaf, Thai chicken meatballs, chicken sausage rolls and spinach and feta pinwheels.

Why You're Going To Love This Recipe

    • Super creamy - this dip is made with Philadelphia cream cheese, so it's super luscious and creamy. You can use a 'light' version if you prefer, although for rich and creamy at its very best, go for the full fat version!
    • Cheesy - cheddar or tasty cheese is used in this recipe, so the dip has a lovely cheesy flavour with a tiny hint of bite!
    • Slightly sweet, slightly spicy - the sweet chilli sauce gives the dip a bit of spice while keeping it kid-friendly. If you want more spice, you can use a hot chilli sauce to taste.
    • Easy to make - cream cheese dip is so very easy to make. It can be made in a Thermomix or just by using a bowl and spoon.
    • Quick and easy - ready in just 5 minutes!

    What You Need

A few simple store bought ingredients and 5 minutes to prep - and you're ready to go!

Note: Please scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for ingredient quantities and the full detailed method.

Individual ingredients set out on a marble bench top.
    • Cream cheese - softened to room temperature. I prefer Philadelphia cream cheese for this recipe, but I'm sure other brands are just as suitable if you can't find this one.
    • Cheddar cheese - or a variety of tasty. I prefer to freshly grate a block of cheese, but you can use store-bought shredded if you choose.
    • Mayonnaise - I recommend a whole egg mayonaise.
    • Sweet chili sauce - homemade or store-bought is fine.
    • Spring onions - fresh, finely chopped.

    Equipment Required

No fancy equipment is required for this recipe - (just a bowl and spoon) but you can use a Thermomix instead!

    Step By Step Instructions

Homemade cream cheese dip always tastes better than a pre-made one, and you know just what's in it!

Note: Please scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for ingredient quantities and the full detailed method.

Step 1 - Prep The Ingredients

Place the softened cream cheese, grated cheese, mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and chopped spring onions into a mixing bowl.

    Step 2 - Mix Together

Use a spoon to mix well together until smooth and combined.

Ingredients mixed together well in a white bowl with a spoon.

If using a Thermomix: grate the cheese for 5 seconds, Speed 8. Add the remaining ingredients and mix on Reverse for 20 seconds, Speed 4.

    Step 3 - Serve

Serve cream cheese dip on a platter with vegetable sticks, crackers, or corn chips.

    Expert Tips

    • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temp before using. If you don't have time to wait for the cream cheese to soften to room temperature, place it in the microwave on 50% power for 30-60 seconds or until just softened.
    • This dip can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
    • Serve at room temp (or remove from the fridge 20 minutes before serving). You can also serve it warm by placing it in a small slow cooker on a warm setting. Warm cream cheese dip goes fabulously with potato chips.
    • Add more chilli sauce and/or mayo to suit your taste.
    • Garnish this dip with some crumbled crispy bacon for extra flavour and a bit of crunch.
    • It's versatile - turn this easy cream cheese dip into a chicken dip or salmon dip by mixing in some cooked finely shredded chicken or smoked salmon for added protein and flavour.
    • Try replacing the sweet chilli sauce with a little of your favourite beer for a beer cheese dip - great with potato crisps!

    FAQ's

Does cream cheese need to be cooked?

No heating is required. You can eat cream cheese directly from the package, or use it in cheesecakes and other baking, even spread on a sandwich. Just make sure to use it, or freeze it, before the expiry date listed on the package.

Is Philadelphia the same as other cream cheese?

Philadelphia is the most well-known cream cheese brand since it is sold worldwide and typically has the word "cream cheese" on the packaging. Still, some of it now comes in plastic resealable containers labelled as a "cream cheese spread" - which is just that! Spreadable cream cheese is perfect for spreading on sandwiches or crackers.

How long does cream cheese last in the fridge once opened?

Cream cheese should be eaten within ten days of being opened.

Absolutely Delicious. I used chives from my garden as that's all I had and kewpie mayo, again because that's what I had. Kids smashed it down. Great Recipe
