Why You're Going To Love This Recipe

My Tim Tam fudge recipe is absolutely fool-proof and SO simple!

Unlike more complicated fudge recipes, my recipe does not require sugar thermometers or glucose syrup!

    • Quick and easy - a perfect recipe for 'kids in the kitchen' to try out - it takes just minutes and is absolutely foolproof!
    • Only 3 ingredients and one bowl - yes, just 3 ingredients, a couple of minutes... and of course, a microwave. Grab a packet of Tim Tam's, some sweetened condensed milk and chocolate - that's it!
    • A thoughtful gift - surprise a loved one, friend or neighbour with a welcome gift, and of course, Tim Tam fudge makes a great Christmas present for that hardworking teacher at year's end - and don't they deserve it!
    • Conventional and Thermomix - easy to make in a microwave, but just as easy if you have a Thermomix - I have included instructions for both methods in the recipe card below.
Squares of a chocolate fudge with chunks of Tim Tam, placed around the edge of a cake stand.

    What You Need

Tim Tam's are often on special at the supermarket, so grab an extra packet next time!

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

The 3 ingredients needed for fudge recipe, placed on a bench.
    • Sweetened condensed milk - choose a full fat sweetened condensed milk, not skim. The Nestle brand is a consistently good quality sweetened condensed milk that thickens really well.
    • Milk chocolate - a good quality chocolate will make all the difference in the final flavour. Cadbury or Nestle milk chocolate melts are ideal to use. Chocolate chips are not suitable as they are best used in recipes where they need to hold their shape - like in chocolate chip cookies!
    • Tim Tams - roughly chopped into chunks.

    Equipment Required

Such an easy recipe, there's little equipment required for this yummy Tim Tam fudge!

    • Microwave, a large microwave safe bowl and metal spoon - to melt the chocolate with the condensed milk. Alternatively, you can use a Thermomix.
    • Knife and chopping board - to chop the Tim Tam's on.
    • Slice tray - approx. 20cm x 20cm, lined with baking paper.

    Step By Step Instructions

Just three easy steps in this microwave Tim Tam fudge recipe - melt, mix and chill!

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

Step 1 - Microwave Chocolate And Condensed Milk

Firstly, grease and line a 20cm x 20cm square baking tin with greaseproof baking paper and set this aside.

Place the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate melts into a microwave safe bowl.

Chocolate melts and sweetened condensed milk in a glass bowl.

Heat on 50% power in 30 second bursts, stirring each time with a dry metal spoon until just melted (approximately 1-2 minutes).

Melted chocolate and condensed milk mixed in a large clear bowl.

Once the chocolate mixture is smooth, add the chopped Tim Tam's to the bowl.

Chopped Tim Tams added to the melted chocolate mixture.

Stir the Tim Tam chunks through to coat all pieces well.

Chopped Tim Tams stirred through melted chocolate mixture.

Spread the mixture into the prepared tin, smooth the top, and place into the fridge for 1 hour to set.

    Expert Tips

As I have mentioned, this Tim Tam fudge recipe is completely foolproof, but here's a few tips to make it the very best!

    • Tim Tam's - are an iconic Australian sweet chocolate biscuit coated in chocolate. If you can’t buy Tim Tams, you can use a similar substitute such as Penguin biscuits or even Oreo cookies.
    • I use milk chocolate for this recipe, however you could use dark chocolate if you prefer (you can also get dark chocolate Tim Tam's these days too!)
    • Chocolate 'melts' are designed to...well...melt! Chocolate chips are not suitable, as they are designed to hold their shape in baking, like in chocolate chip cookies!
    • Use full fat (not skim) sweetened condensed milk as it sets firmer.
    • Storing - this is a soft fudge and therefore needs to be stored in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve it. It can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 weeks - if it lasts that long!

    FAQs

What is a Tim Tam biscuit?

A Tim Tam consists of two crunchy malted biscuits sandwiched together with a layer of firm chocolate cream filling, then coated in a thin layer of textured chocolate - delicious!

Interesting fact - Arnott's Tim Tam biscuits were first made in Australia in 1964 and named after a racehorse that won the Kentucky Derby in 1958.

Why use full fat sweetened condensed milk instead of skim?

Skim condensed milk contains less fat and sugar than the full fat version. Because of this, the skim or fat free condensed milk will not set as firm as the full fat one.
I recommend you use full fat condensed milk in this fudge, not just to help with keeping the fudge firmer, but also for the extra creamy taste - and if you're going to make fudge, then go the whole way!
