If you haven't tried cheesecake balls yet, then this recipe is going to BLOW YOUR MIND!!!

They are the most decadent, rich, sweet and creamy little balls coated in chocolate... in other words, they're the ultimate dessert treat!

These caramel Tim Tams make the perfect sweet party food treat.

Serve them on their own or mix them up and make a few varieties, such as my Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlua cheesecake balls and Peppermint Crisp versions!

Why You're Going To Love This Recipe

There's a LOT to love about these cheeky little caramel cheesecake balls!

    • No-bake - forget turning the oven on! Simply crush, mix, roll, coat in chocolate and chill!
    • 3 ingredients - you won't believe that you need only 1.2.3 ingredients for this delicious dessert! Add cream cheese, Tim Tams (or a substitute) and chocolate to your grocery list this week.
    • Party food - planning a party? This is the ultimate recipe! These individual cheesecake balls make the perfect sweet finger food.
    • Quick and easy - with just a few minutes prep time - the hardest part about making these cheesecake balls is waiting for the mixture to chill.
    • Versatile - don't have access to Tim Tams? No problem! You can substitute them with any caramel flavoured cookie you like.

    Tim Tam Substitutes

In this cheesecake balls recipe, I like to use caramel Tim Tams.

However, if Tim Tams are not available in your country, you can easily substitute them.

    What Are Tim Tams?

Tim Tams are a popular Australian biscuit (known as cookies in the US) made by the company Arnotts. They have a soft sweet filling and are coated in chocolate.

Tim Tams come in a variety of flavours including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, mint chocolate and caramel.

Where Can You Buy Tim Tams?

If you are in Australia, Tim Tams are readily available in any supermarket or grocer.

If you’re outside of Australia, they can often be purchased from international grocers, some larger supermarkets or Walmart.

They can also be purchased online through Amazon or other online food retailers.

    Tim Tam Substitutes

If you can’t buy Tim Tams, there are many substitutes that you can use.

If you’re in the UK, Penguin biscuits are similar.

Otherwise, you can use any kind of chocolate or caramel flavoured cookie you like.

For something different, you can try making chocolate cheesecake balls using crushed Oreos instead!

    What You Need

Just 3 ingredients... how great is that!

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

    1. Caramel Tim Tams - these are famous Australian biscuits (known as cookies in the US). If Tim Tams aren't available where you live, please see my substitute recommendations above.
    2. Cream cheese - I like to use Philadelphia cream cheese. However, you can use any brand you like. Ensure you choose a block of cream cheese (not soft or spreadable).
    3. Milk chocolate - choose any kind of melting chocolate you like - white, milk or dark chocolate are all delicious options!

    How To Make Cheesecake Balls

This simple no-bake cheesecake ball recipe would not be quicker or easier!

Note: Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the ingredients quantities and full detailed method.

Step 1 - Crush The Tim Tams

You can use either a food processor, blender or Thermomix to crush the biscuits.

If you don't have these, you can crush the biscuits using a rolling pin.

Continue crushing until fine crumbs remain.

Step 2 - Mix Through The Cream Cheese

Soften the cream cheese to room temperature (this will make it easier to mix the cream cheese through the cookie crumbs).

Mix the cream cheese through the cookie crumbs until completely combined.

Chill the mixture in the freezer.

Step 3 - Roll Into Balls

Take spoonfuls of the chilled mixture and roll into balls (approximately 1 inch or 2.5 cm in size).

Chill the balls in the freezer.

Step 4 - Coat In Melted Chocolate

Place the cheesecake balls into a bowl of melted chocolate and use a spoon or fork to coat them.

Allow any excess chocolate to drip off and then place onto a baking tray and chill in the fridge until set.

    Recipe Notes & Tips

    What are Tim Tams?

Tim Tams are a famous Australia biscuit. If you can't buy Tim Tams then you can substitute them for Penguins (in the UK) or any caramel flavoured cookie.

    Type of cream cheese

Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature before using as this helps the mixture to combine easily.
Use a block of full fat cream cream (not light or spreadable as they are too soft). I like to use Philadelphia brand.

    Chilling the mixture

It's important to chill the mixture before rolling into balls and then again before dipping the balls into the melted chocolate.
Chilling helps the balls to hold their shape.
I recommend chilling the balls in the freezer as it's quicker, however, you can chill them in the fridge if you prefer.

    Storing

Store the cheesecake balls in the fridge for up to 5 days. Keep refrigerated until consuming.

    Ingredients

    • 300 g Caramel Tim Tam biscuits or any caramel flavoured cookies (see notes)
    • 250 g cream cheese room temperature
    • 250 g milk chocolate

    Instructions

    Conventional Method

    • Crush the caramel Tim Tams in a blender or food processor (or with a rolling pin) until they resemble fine crumbs.
    • Mix the caramel crumbs with the room temperature cream cheese. Place the bowl of mixture into the freezer for 30 minutes (this will make it easier to roll into balls).
    • Roll into 1 inch (2.5cm) sized balls and place on a tray lined with baking paper. Place back into the freezer or fridge for 30 minutes (freezer is best).
    • Place milk chocolate into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on 50% power for 2-3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until chocolate is completely melted.
    • Place the cheesecake balls into the bowl of melted chocolate (in batches) and use two small spoons to roll the balls around until they are completely coated in chocolate.
    • Remove the cheesecake balls and allow any excess chocolate to drip off.
    • Place back onto the baking paper lined tray and decorate with your choice of toppings (ie. gold sugar, sprinkles, extra drizzled white chocolate).
    • Place into the fridge until set (and keep refrigerated until ready to serve).

    Thermomix Method

    • Place the caramel Tim Tams into the Thermomix bowl and mix for 10 seconds, Speed 8. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
    • Add the room temperature cream cheese and mix on Reverse, Speed 4 until well combined (scraping down the sides of the bowl occasionally). Place the bowl of mixture into the freezer for 30 minutes (this will make it easier to roll into balls).
    • Roll into 1 inch (2.5cm) sized balls and place on a tray lined with baking paper. Place back into the freezer or fridge for 30 minutes (freezer is best).
    • Place chocolate into a clean Thermomix bowl and grate for 5 seconds, Speed 8. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Melt for 3 minutes, 50 degrees, Speed 2, scraping the sides occasionally. Pour the melted chocolate into a small bowl.

This is especially important if you're making the balls on a hot day. Hi Sue, these are very popular in Australia. If you're in the UK you can substitute them for penguins. If you're in the US, you can use Oreos (while you won't have the caramel flavour - they'll still be delicious!).

These taste amazing, but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, I cannot for the life of me get the mixture to roll into balls without smooshing all over my hands, even freezing for hours hasn’t helped. Arghhh a messy handed cook lol

They can be a little messy - especially if your hands are warm!!! Try spraying a little cooking oil on your hands before rolling them!

There are GF Oreo's in most super markets. We are a Celiac family as well. Also, Glutino makes great, very tasty oreo cocokies as well. Hope this helps!
