How To Have A Kick-Ass Blog

Want to know how to have a kick-ass blog? If I was smart, I’d hold off the answer until the end of this post… making you read through all of my ramblings, BUT that is soooooo not me. So here goes. If you want your blog to be amazing, unique and downright freaking fantastic, then you’ve got to run your own race. Seriously. The secret is to be real, be YOU and have fun! No comparing yourself to others… never ever!!

And no, I’m not talking about chucking on your Nikes and doing a 10km jog (because… heck no!), I’m talking about being YOU. Being your fabulous, special self – and pretty much not giving two hoots about what everyone else is doing. I’m not saying to stop reading other blogs for fear of comparing yourself. But read other blogs because you love their style and what they have to say… and then go and be your true self on your own blog.

You know those people in life who are always trying to copy someone else’s style, dreams, life, ideas?? Yep, we all know someone like that. Well when it comes to blogging, those people are quadruply as painful. Why? Because the whole reason that bloggers start blogs is so that they have a space where they can be their own person, have their own voice – that’s what makes us special and unique. Whether you’re funny, serious, naughty, sweet… whatever – that’s you and YOU ARE FABULOUS!!!

So if you want to know how to have a kick-ass blog, it’s to run your own race. Be your own number 1 fan. Love that you have a unique voice and use it. Comparison is the thief of joy (at least I think that’s the saying??) and it’s SO true. Don’t try and be like other bloggers that you respect and love. Enjoy their blogs for the wonderful little havens that they have created, and then go and make your own blog just as amazing… but in your own special way!

Think of the very best bloggers you know. What makes them so amazing? It’s the fact that they have such an authentic and truthful voice. One that is 100% them. Don’t go changing yourself in search of extra page views or likes, be YOU. Because that is more than enough.

Woooow! This is such a serious post for me to write. Usually I’m all about sprinkles and cupcakes (which are pretty much the best things ever). But I really wanted to write this post and to let you know that you are enough, you are amazing, and being your true self on your blog will bring you so much happiness (which by the way, is far better than a few extra likes on Facebook).

And that’s it from me. Enough seriousness for one day. I have a big bowl of sticky date pudding calling my name… xxx

Thank you Lucy for sharing this. There is some seriously great advice here. Today is one of those A-Ha days for me, learning that procrastination is an emotional process not rational, and now reading your writing is a really good reminder that I need to just be me and not be bothered about whether that works for anyone else. My writing is not ultimately for them but for me and if others get something out of it that is great.

Absolutely! What works for when person, doesn’t work for someone else… and that’s totally fine!

I 100% agree with this Lucy – once I stopped trying to compare myself to other bloggers I was much happier and felt more free to write what I want to write. Pity it took 4 years for me to come to that realisation… but better late than never!

This is a change of style for you (not sprinkles and cupcakes!) but I love it because I so agree. Find you’re voice and feel confident with what you’re dishing up. It can take a while to find it and sit into it but when you do, then you can have some real creative fun! Thanks for the truth lady! x

Definitely! I think it’s when you’re comfortable doing your own thing that the fun starts!

Top tip and I think if you aren’t sure where you sit in it all, just start and you will find your feet.We can always be so nasty to ourselves. x
