Grilled Beef & Bacon Burgers are perfect for a summer BBQ - they're super easy which leaves more time for relaxing and enjoying the sun!

    A classic beef burger recipe

It's hard to beat a good old fashioned beef burger... these are a Friday night favourite at our house! Soft hamburger buns filled with salad, crispy bacon and a grilled beef patty - dinner couldn't be easier or more delicious!

A homemade burger with lettuce, tomato, cheese, cucumber, beef patty, bacon and burger sauce on a hamburger bun.

    Grilled beef patties

Our classic beef patties take just a minute or two to prepare and are full of basic ingredients (plus 2 secret ones!):

    • beef mince
    • diced onion
    • egg
    • breadcrumbs
    • minced garlic
    • salt and pepper
    • ... plus the secret weapons... tabasco sauce and Worcestershire sauce (they add the most delicious flavour to the burgers!)

Salad and beef burgers with bacon.

    Salad filling ideas

I like to keep the salad fillings in our classic beef and bacon burgers really simple:

    • lettuce
    • tomato
    • avocado
    • cheese
    • cucumber

But these salad fillings are also delicious:

    • sliced beetroot
    • pickles
    • grated carrot
    • capsicum
    • spinach
    • mushrooms
    • red onion
    • pineapple slices

Mix and match with whatever you have at home (and whatever you know your family will love!).

Homemade BBQ beef patties with bacon.

    Burger sauce

I like to use the Coles Special Burger Sauce in this recipe. It tastes just like McDonalds Big Mac sauce and tastes AMAZING with our beef burgers.

You can buy similar Big Mac style sauces from most major supermarkets.

    A homemade beef hamburger.

And that's it - such a simple recipe that really takes your summer barbecue cooking up a notch! With barbecues it's all about keeping it basic - relaxing and not fussing around with time-consuming cooking. If you're really pressed for time, you could of course buy pre-made beef patties... no judging here- I've done exactly that many, many times before! Now all you need is a glass of wine, a few friends and a bit of that beautiful sunshine. Bring on summer I say!!!!

I'm starting to plan more of our meals around BBQ's now because I can't get the kids to come inside at dinner time now anyway. These look delicious.

I haven't gotten used to shortcut bacon (it's only been 20 years) on a burger. I'm always looking for thin bacon like they have in NZ or the states. That said, I would eat this and lick my fingers. 🙂

Yum! My favourite pic is the last one...felt like I took a bite out of it! Burgers are awesome and so versatile. A very social food when everyone can make up their own.

These look amazing! Can't wait to give them a try! Plus the kids will enjoy them too. Nothing like a good burger on a warm summer's night and to be able to cook it on the bbq is even better.
